Cookie Dough Jack-O-Lantern Pumpkins

It's Saturday morning, and I have been thinking of new recipes for our readers to enjoy with their kids. This one is just too cute!

These cookie dough pumpkins are made with traditional cookie dough (without eggs), and orange food coloring. 

You'll Need:
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Orange Food Coloring
licorice strings, black or green

Directions:
Combine flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract, and 10 drops of orange food coloring in large mixer bowl until creamy. Gradually beat in flour mixture.

I then made some small balls of the dough (the size of a golf ball) and made some indentations using a tooth pick on four sides. Then I gently pressed them down from the top with my index finger and inserted a piece of black or green licorice string candy to make the pumpkin stem. Lastly, using black icing, make jack-o-lantern faces for each little guy! Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving (so they are nice and firm).
