The Best Chocolate Cake

This chocolate cake is always my go to cake for parties.  It is moist, chocolaty and is always a crowd favorite!



  • 1 3/4 cup flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup brewed, cooled coffee
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup applesauce
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Grease and flour two 9 inch round pans or one 9 x 13 pan, set aside.
  2. In a large bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Whisk unitl combined.  In a medium size bowl add in all your wet ingredients and whisk until well mixed.  Slowly add your wet ingredients into your dry and mix.
  3. Pour into prepared pans and bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.  Allow to cool before removing from the pan.  Frost with your favorite frosting!
