Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cake

I made this cake yesterday for my husband's birthday.  Needless to say it was heavenly and I had everyone drooling because it was soooooo good.  This cookie dough is safe to eat because it does not have eggs.  You could also do cupcakes if you'd like instead of a cake.  You will just need to pipe the cookie dough into the center of the cupcake after its baked.

1 box of Yellow Cake Mix
1/2 c unsalted butter
3/4 cup light brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tbl milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 c all-purpose flour
1 c mini chocolate chips

Bake yellow cake according to directions on the box for (2) 9 inch round cake pans or cupcakes.  While cake is baking put together your cookie dough.  Mix butter with both sugars until creamy.  Add in milk and vanilla until they are both incorporated.  Slowly add in flower until well mixed.  Fold in chocolate chips.

Allow cake to cool completely.  Remove 1 cake from pan and place on platter.  Place cookie dough on top of the cake, this will be your filling.  Spread evenly and top with other cake.  For cupcakes, fill the cookie dough in a piping bag and pipe into the cupcake until it peeps out of the top.  For easier piping you may want to scoop out a tablespoon or so of the cupcake from the center.  Finish with your favorite frosting or with the brown sugar frosting shown below.

I used a brown sugar frosting and it paired really well with the cookie dough.  You can use any flavor frosting you like though.

Frosting

1 1/2 sticks butter
1/3 c brown sugar
3-4 c powdered sugar
3 tbl milk.

Mix butter and brown sugar until creamy.  Slowly add in the powdered sugar.  Add milk 1 tablespoon at a time until frosting is thick and creamy.

Enjoy your slice of heaven!
