Hot Buttered Rum

This warm cocktail is so smooth and rich it's like a dessert on it's own.  The buttery goodness and fragrant spices will be sure to warm you on a cold winters day.


  • 6 cups apple cider
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 8 whole cloves
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tbl lemon juice
  • 6 tbl brown sugar
  • 6 tbl butter
  • 1 cup rum (more or less depending on how you like it)

Place apple cider, cinnamon sticks, cloves, nutmeg and lemon juice into a medium sauce pan and allow to simmer for about 10 minutes.  Remove from heat and discard the cinnamon sticks and cloves if desired.  Place 1 tablespoon of butter, 1 tablespoon of brown sugar and a shot of rum in 6 mugs and top with 1 cup of cider.  Serve with a dollop of whipped cream!
