Homemade English Toffee - Only 4 ingredients!

One of my biggest guilty pleasures around the holidays is english toffee. I will stop at a local chocolate shop to buy an overpriced pound of toffee and finish it in one night! Bad, I know.

You'll Need:

1 cup butter
1 1/4 cups white sugar
2 tablespoons water
1/4 cup slivered almonds
1 cup chocolate chips

Directions:

  1. Butter a 10x15 inch jellyroll pan.
  2. In a heavy skillet, over medium heat, melt butter.
  3. Stir in sugar and water. Bring to a boil and add almonds.
  4. Cook, stirring constantly until nuts are toasted and the sugar is golden.
  5. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and sprinkle the chocolate chips on top.
  6. Let stand for a minute then spread the chocolate over the top.
  7. Let cool completely then break into pieces.

This year I will have to make my own!

  1. Just wondering, since it isn't specified, does this recipe call for salted or unsalted butter? I really want to try this :)

    1. I used salted butter and it turned out awesome! Make sure you cook it long enough though. it'll be almost brown when it's ready to pour into the pan. my second batch I rushed and I didn't cook long enough and it was sugary and crumbling.

  2. Is it supposed to have extra butter floating around? I followed measurements exactly, and it's got a bunch of butter on top.
