Stars and Stripes Trifle

Fresh berries and fluffy angle food cake make this dessert light and delicious!  Best of all there's no baking involved so it's a cinch to put together :)

Ingredients:

  • 1 premade angel food cake, sliced into large wedges
  • 1/4 cup Limoncello
  • 1/4 tsp lemon extract
  • 1 container cool whip
  • 2 pints strawberries, sliced
  • 2 pints blueberries
  • mint sprig (optional)

Place washed berries in a large bowl and cover with Limoncello.  Allow to sit overnight or at least 4 hours.  Remove berries from the bowl and reserve Limoncello.  With a basting brush, brush each side of the sliced angel food cake with the reserved Limoncello and dice into bite sized cubes.  Flavor your cool whip with 1/4 tsp of lemon extract, mix until combined.  Begin layering your trifle.  Place 1/2 of the cubed angel food cake along the bottom of the trifle, sprinkle with a layer of blueberries then top with 1/2 the cool whip, finally place a layer of strawberries on top of the cool whip.  Complete this process one more time completing with an arrangement of strawberries and blueberries.  Finish with a spring of mint on the top!
