Super Easy Knit Poncho

This is a great knit poncho for a beginner or someone who is just learning to knit.  I found the pattern from the book Speed Knitting, 24 Quick and Easy Projects by Kris Percival.  The book is great and has plenty of what it describes. quick and easy projects.  I am still a beginner myself and found this pattern very easy.  The if your interested in purchasing the book it can be found here:  Speed Knitting: 24 Quick and Easy Projects

The pattern fits a toddler (18 months - 3 years), young child (four to seven), an older child (eight to fourteen), and an adult (sixteen and up).

Gauge:  should be about 1/7 stitches per inch in stitch pattern on size 15 needles.  Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain proper gauge.

You will need:

• 2 (3, 4, 5) skeins ( 100 grams each) bulky wool or acrylic
• 1 pair size 15 needles, straight or circular to work flat
• tape measure
• scissors
• yarn needle

 Here are the instructions:

1. Cast on 15 (19 for young child, 21 for older child, 25 for adult) stitches leaving a 6 inch tail to weave in later.
2. Row 1:  Purl (This is the right side of the piece).
3. Row 2:  Purl
4. Row 3:  Knit 2, *yarn over, slip 1, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over.  Repeat from * across to last stitch, ending with knit 1.
5. Row 4: Purl
6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 for stitch pattern until rectangle measures 18 (22, 26, 30) inches from the cast on edge.  Bind off loosely.
7. Knit a second triangle.

Now you need to assemble the poncho.

1. Place the cast on edge rectangle 1 against the lower side of rectangle 2.  The cast on rows will create a  90 degree angle.  Seam rectangle 1 to rectangle 2.  The point at the bottom is the middle of the poncho.  Fold the rectangles over and seam the bind off edge of rectangle 2 to the side of rectangle 1.
2. Weave in and trim loose ends.
